The Bikeability training service is being commissioned with the following objectives to:

•increase confidence to cycle
•create a positive perception of cycling
•encourage, enable and facilitate more people to cycle, more safely and more often
•increase cycling trips
•increase the number of children and adults receiving cycle training
•deliver level 2 cycle training to 80% of year 6 pupils
Staff delivering training should be fully accredited Bikeability trainers offering the DfT’s Bikeability programme and the contractors training scheme must be Bikeability Registered. Full details of Bikeability are available here: http://bikeability.org.uk/
BackgroundIn previous years, funding from Bikeability has allowed us to deliver a combination of Level 1/2/Plus and Balance modules in order to train a number of children at different age groups. This year, however, Bikeability have set a target of every year 6 child receiving Level 2 training, as well as providing Level 3 training to secondary schools.
62% of year 5 and 6 pupils received Level1/2 training in 22-23. The overall level of funding that Shropshire have available is £166,153 per year.
Demand for the training is likely to exceed the available funding to Shropshire Council. Therefore the tender includes a number of options which have been included to address the training demand and financial pressures. To this end Shropshire Council is keen to work with an innovative service provider who can deliver the best possible service within the funding constraints. It is also important to note that the grant funding from DfT is subject to an annual confirmation process.
